Quality Active Direct Box
The SWAMP DI-48 Mono Direct Box (DI box) is a quality active direct box for transforming high-impedance (Hi-Z), unbalanced guitar/instrument outputs into low-impedance, balanced inputs. Requires 48V phantom power, usually supplied from a mixing desk.
When to use a active DI?
An active DI box utilises a buffering circuit that boosts the signal going to the balanced XLR output. Instruments that output a passive signal, with no internal buffer circuit (e.g. guitar with no battery) benefit most from using an active DI, ensuring a strong, clear signal that reaches the mixing desk. While instruments with higher outputs and internal buffers such as electronic keyboards and active basses are better suited to a passive DI.
Great for Acoustic Guitars
Most sound technicians will also prefer to use an active DI box on acoustic guitars, even though most acoustic guitar pick ups have built in volume control, the result gives extra presence and sparkle to the sound. The DI-48 is perfectly suited for use with acoustic guitars.
Pad, Polarity, Low Cut, Ground Lift , Link or Merge Outputs
The DI-48 has plenty of features, including a low cut to stop those rumbly frequencies coming through and a phase reverse. The link / thru output allow the musician to also connect to their regular stage amps as well as sending a signal to the mixing desk. Hit the Merge button and the Thru output becomes an input for occasions where you need two inputs for keyboard for example. Selectable pad settings will dampen hot signals and a ground lift switch for each channel can remove ground loop noises.
